In March, 2001 Institute of Archaeology organized the International archaeological conference in L’viv and Yavoriv under the title “Ethno-genesis and early history of the Slavs: new concepts on the turn of millennia” together with Museum of Archaeology and chair of archaeology, antic and medieval studies of the Ivan Franko National University of L’viv.

The main purpose of this forum was to recover traditions of well known archaeology school of L’viv University from the mid-nineteenth century. On planning meeting and in sections two main topics were considered. Initially the ethno-genesis and the early history of the Slavs were discussed with the new approach to the theory of Slavic “core” genesis in poly-ethnic cultures of the first half of first millennia AD as well as the relations between different ethnic groups and the Slavic colonization of Central, Southern and Eastern Europe. The second topic considered the social, economic, political, spiritual and state creation processes that took place among the Slavs in the second half of first millennia and in the beginning of second millennium AD.

Following the results of conference collected materials were published in book with the same title (”Ethno-genesis and the early history of the Slavs: new concepts on the turn of millennia” – L’viv, 2001 – 293 s.).
